On Wednesday 14 November, the Trust was delighted to welcome Councillor Christopher Hudson to formally name our new boat, Maria Constable.
The purchase of the boat was greatly assisted through a generous £6,000 grant from the Councillor’s locality budget. Mr Hudson said: “I am delighted to support the Trust in its work to maintain our priceless heritage.”
The boat has been named after the wife of the renowned artist, John Constable, and the intention is for it to operate on the river between Flatford, Dedham and Stratford St Mary, where many of the scenes from Constable paintings are recognisable today.
River Stour Trust Vice President, Emrhys Barrell, said: “The Trust already has another boat called John Constable, so naming this one after his wife is most appropriate!”
