The River Stour remains closed to navigation at Fen Bridge, between Dedham and Flatford, because the footbridge is in an unsafe condition and still moving.
The structure has been monitored and it has been established that it is liable to collapse so under no circumstances should anyone attempt to navigate beneath the bridge nor walk over it. All river users MUST leave the water in order to portage/walk round the bridge.
As a result of this situtation, the River Stour Trust cannot offer boat trips at Flatford as our boat Trusty is essentially trapped at Dedham. We are looking at what alternative trips we can offer; but our trip boats at Sudbury will soon be running.
Suffolk Highways say they are planning to remove the unstable bridge later this Summer to enable the navigation to be re-opened as soon as possible.
